Todd Pleiness concentrates his practice in intellectual property law, i.e., patents, copyrights and trademarks. He graduated from Kettering University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering and received his Juris Doctor from Michigan State University College of Law in 2006, with a concentration in Intellectual Property & Communications Law. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Before attending law school, Mr. Pleiness worked as a co-op student and later as a manufacturing engineer at General Motors Corporation, troubleshooting the application and automation in the paint department of the Hamtramck Assembly Center. As a co-op student at GM, he supervised the installation of instrument panels and steering wheel clusters, and aided in productivity advancements in the Production Planning Department. Subsequently, Mr. Pleiness was a resident engineer at INA USA Corporation for two years, where he acted as a liaison between customers, application engineering and plant scheduling. He gained knowledge in the design, failure analysis, manufacturing process, i.e., stamping, cold-forming and heat treatment, and assembly of thrust and roller bearings. During law school, he was an intern with a firm in Bloomfield Hills, MI and later as an intellectual property attorney, until joining the Rasor Law Firm.
