Background
Ray Richards is of Counsel to the Rasor Firm and the principal and managing member of the The Law Office of Ray E Richards II,PLLC, which he founded in 1997. Ray began his legal career with a stellar achievement in the Moot Court and Mock Trial programs in law school as well as, in the Courts of Common Pleas in the State of Ohio Sidney County working as an extern with the Sidney County Public Defenders Office where under the supervision of the Public Defender he began trying cases.
He then upon graduation from law school began working with a civil rights, plaintiffs personal injury, commercial litigation firm Drew,Cooper & Anding P.C. located in Grand Rapids, MI. Thereafter, he worked for one of the largest insurance defense firms in the State of Michigan Becker, Lanctot, Schoolmaster, Taylor and Hom P.C.
His yearning to be in the courtroom on a daily basis and to try cases to juries led him to the Legal Aid and Defender Office-Felony Public Defenders Office. In that position he represented successfully many indigent defendants charged with minor and capital felonies in Wayne County.
Attorney Richards has since built a respected, renown and resourceful nationwide criminal defense practice. He handles misdemeanor and felony matters in municipal and state court from ranging from DUI, drug/narcotics offenses, weapons/guns possession cases to murder charges. His federal court criminal practice spans locally and nationwide. Major drug and weapons conspiracy, public corruption, mortgage and health care fraud and white collar criminal indictments are just some of the federal cases he routinely defends on behalf of clients.
He is known for both his potent and prodigious trial skills and the ability to negotiate brow raising plea deals-when appropriate. He is one of the “go to” lawyers when the Fed’s come knocking. He is a member of the prestigious Federal CJA Panel which is a group of select Federal Criminal Defense practitioners in the Metro Detroit area, who are called upon to represent indigent defendants charged and indicted with serious Federal crimes.
